Q&A with Creating Value in Schools

What does Creating Value in Schools do?

Creating Value in Schools is a podcast, website, newsletter, resource hub and strategic support service for schools. At its heart, it is about helping people flourish in their roles, work sustainably and find ways to make school life more manageable.

We know that schools can be intense and demanding environments, with significant pressures on both leaders and staff. Over time, this can lead to stress and burnout. I’m particularly interested in how we can make school life more manageable through a holistic approach to sustainability.

For me, sustainability is about taking care of people, the planet and the resources available to us. It’s about creating environments where both individuals and organisations can thrive for the long term.

Why did you decide to join EdCity as a member?

One of the reasons being part of EdCity is so valuable is that, while I collaborate with a range of people, from podcast guests to other professionals I work with, much of what I do is independent. When you’re working on your own, it can sometimes feel a bit isolating. Coming to EdCity helps with that because it puts me in a space alongside others working in education. It reminds me that I’m part of a wider ecosystem of people supporting pupils, staff and schools in all kinds of different ways. There’s a real sense of connection and shared purpose.

What makes EdCity different to other offices or event spaces that you have used in the past?

I’d say what makes EdCity different is its clear focus on education. Education sits at the heart of everything it does, and there is a strong commitment to serving the community around it. For me, that sense of purpose and shared mission is a real differentiator.

Another benefit is being surrounded by people who are working towards similar goals. Even in casual conversations, there’s usually some common ground or shared interest to connect over. Whether it’s discussing challenges in education, sharing ideas, or learning about different approaches, those interactions are always valuable.

Being part of EdCity means being part of a community that is united by a commitment.
